River Lea beavers enjoyed the spring sunshine with a hike along the river. We all met at Stanstead Abbots and walked back to Ware stopping at the locks for Weasel to demonstrate the working of the lock (in theory I hasten to add).

We walked on to the nature reserve where the Beavers did a bit of bird spotting

and you can't have a hike without a snack.

We then made our way back to the hut where the parents
were waiting patiently for their tired Beavers.

Happy Easter

River Ash Beavers - end of term Wide Game

The Beavers headed out to local woods last evening to play a Wide game - where they had to try and capture the other teams flag.

 The Briefing

The Flag  - well a Blue hoop really

and there's the other flag - a green hoop

A great evening had by all

Stayin' alive

Bobcat Scouts spent last Friday evening completing the Emergency Aid requirements of the Outdoor plus challenge badge.
The recovery position and treatment of severe bleeding were among the subjects covered on one base.

Ryan, a former 3rd Ware Scout, visited to instruct in CPR as another activity.

The final activity involved a brief study of the workings of the heart followed by the chance to examine a sheep's heart.

We also took the time to view the British Heart Foundations 'Stayin' Alive' hands only CPR video featuring Vinnie Jones (find it on You Tube or the BHF website if you want to watch again).

Write for the Blog

If any one who went on the trip wants to write a review of it and email it to Rama (ask your parents to do this please - if they don't already have it his email address is on the Group newsletter which you can get in the member section of the website) then please do.

We know you are looking at the Blog from all your comments and the counter which shows how many people are viewing it.

It would be great to put some of your words on here as well.

Back home

We are back! The young people have gone home, the leaders have gone for some sleep and The Royal Windsor Racecourse is still standing, after hosting it's first ever Scouting sleepover!

I think we can safely say that "3rd Ware Beaver Scout -  Royal Jubilee sleepover" was a success. The young people will, hopefully, remember this for many years to come and will have created some happy memories of the year the Queen celebrated 60 years on the throne

Well done to all  - to the young people for their enthusiasm and good behaviour and the leaders and young leaders for providing this unique opportunity and for sharing this adventure with the Beavers & Cubs.

All back

On our way home

The race winner receives his prize

Jubilee colouring

This was followed by Scouts Own led by Toad and then we loaded the bags on to the coach, said Goodbye to Windsor and climbed on board.

We are on our way and expect to be back at the HQ at 12.20pm

Good morning!

All the winners fed and watered and ready for the next race.
After a filling dinner of burgers and chip and the campfire the Beavers and Cubs got ready for bed. The sleeping bags were set out on the lovely plush carpet of the function room and we had a great view through the large windows of the race course.

We then gathered together for Hot chocolate and the film Racing stripes. Those who were still wide awake also watch some of Lady and the Tramp. The last Beaver fell asleep at around 11.30pm and the leaders either went to their own sleeping bags, or in the case of Rama and Dormouse, found a comfy spot to sit and while away the hours. Due to the location they stayed awake in case anyone needed anything during the night.

What a beautiful morning
At 6.30am (new time!) this morning The first Beaver woke up and soon the others were following suit. Once everyone was up and dressed we had a breakfast of Bacon rolls and juice.

All the bags are now packed and the Beavers are exploring the race course. Don't forget to check back later to see what time to meet us at the HQ.

And the winner is...

Softly falls the light of day....

We sang songs around our "campfire", understandably we were not allowed a real one and so improvised.

We have eaten our evening meal, sorted out our sleeping arrangements and are soon going to watch our film. Come back tomorrow to find out more about our evening, what we do in the morning and of course our coming back ETA.

Good night!

Fun and games

Now we are back for the evening it is time to relax, join in some games, use the play area, take part in the parachute games, kick a ball around and have fun playing with our friends.

....hello racecourse - via a boat!

We're riding along on a crest of a wave

And the sun is in the sky

All our eyes on the distant horizon

Look out for passers-by

We'll do the hailing

When all the ships are round us sailing

We're riding along on the crest of a wave

And the world is ours
Well not quite the crest of a wave, the water is not tidal at Windsor, although there are a few small waves. We all enjoyed our boat trip and are now safely back at the race course ready for our evening meal and activities.

Farewell Castle....

Everywhere we go, people always ask us, who we are , where we come from
and we always tell them, we're from Ware, mighty mighty Ware...

Time to move onto the next part of the adventure

Lunch

What did you do in Windsor? "I had my lunch under a tree. I had...."

In Uniform

They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace Windsor Castle - Christopher Robin 3rd Ware Beavers went down with Alice their Leaders.

I promise.....

In 2008, the Queen held investiture at Windsor castle for the very first time. Dormouse decided that if it is good enough for the Queen it is Good enough for 3rd Ware!

What a place to make your promise
Dormouse take her lead from the Queen

Royal treasure trove

What do young people always remember about their trips out....their lunch and visiting the shop.....

Proud owners of new pencils, lanyards
and other such treasures

and we are in.

Enjoying the sunshine at Her Majesty's pleasure

Wending our way

Making our way to the Castle

...unloading our luggage

We have arrived in Windsor, are at the racecourse, we have seen the castle in the distance, we are unloading the coach and we are very very excited and can hardly wait for the next part of the day!

The adventure has begun...

The Beavers are aboard, the rest of us are present and we are off!

Come back later to see what we are up to.

Easter Crafts

Last night River Ash Beavers spent the evening making Easter Bunnies.
We had a great time cutting and sticking, and as you can see, we all managed to go home with a great looking bunny.

We also managed to find time to colour in our Easter Eggs for the up-coming Easter Eggstravaganza.

Our daffodil bulbs which we planted for Mother's day are now looking fantastic.  Please take the time to admire them next time you are at HQ.
