Falcon camp

The Falcons recently held a camp at Tolmers...this is what they say....

The camp went really well, the weather was fantastic we could not have asked for better & when you see what it is like now & what it was like before we went it’s hard to believe that we had lovely sunny days.

It really would not have been the same without the good weather as we had booked all water activities & had a very young group this time – mainly eight year olds so did not want to put them off camping!

Kaa did kayaking & Shere Khan did pond dipping for the first time – We think that she enjoyed it just as much as the cubs! - & Akela did a nature walk.

It was great fun. Unfortunately Akela got an insect bite & went home Saturday night, her foot had swollen up badly & she had to see the doctor. But everyone else was ok. She came back the next day. Apart from this we all had a good time.

3rd Ware in Bloom

Those Heron Cubs have been at it again, for the past 2 weeks they have been doing some gardening.

It all started on 14th May, when Shere Khan brought along some plants, tools and compost to tidy up the flowerbeds around the HQ.

Each Six was given an area and they all set to work.

Unfortunately a large raincloud decided enough was enough and watered the flowerbeds for us.

Undaunted the Cubs returned the following week, with some better weather and some more willing helpers, and finished their planting.

Look out for some patriotic flowers in the window boxes, and Yellow Six's interpretation of the World Scout Badge.

Thanks to Akela from Falcon Pack and Rama for coming down to help with the planting.

District Go - Carting 2012

On Saturday 12th May all the Ware and District Cubs did go – carting at Glaxo’s Car Park. We practised the week before so we thought we would do well. My friends and I all turned up. Marcus, Fred, William, Josh, Holly, Josh, Zak, Kieran and I were all there.
We all agreed Great Amwell Otters would win because their go – cart was good. We didn’t actually win any races but we didn’t mind. In the marathon Fred was steering. We did well despite the fact other teams kept crashing! That meant we had to stop and start lots of times.

But all of us still had lots of fun!

The Beaver Olympics

The District Beaver sleepover is over for another year and once again the Beavers enjoyed every moment.

The excitement started at the opening ceremony and carried on through the sports events and games, which included, amongst many other things, crossbows, scoring goals and throwing wellies.

The barbecued evening meal of burgers and sausages in buns, followed by cake and juice, was soon polished off and the hike to Bengeo was embarked upon. This was a great way to stretch our legs, look at the world around us and use up some energy , which would hopefully aid a peaceful sleep.

On returning to base, we took part in a campfire, drank hot chocolate and then the Beavers snuggled into their sleeping bags to watch a film and drift off to a well deserved sleep.

The morning quickly arrived and we all enjoyed a hearty breakfast, which was followed by the closing ceremony where the Beavers paraded with their flags, the Olympic flame and represented their allotted countries. Medals and certificates were awarded and Scouts Own was held, where we acknowledged the importance of thinking about and helping others.

The Beavers were collected and returned home. Thank you to the parents who said they had been following the blog and found it a great way to see what their Young people were up to.

Alternative olympic events

Hands up, who applied for Olympic tickets for the quoits, welly wanging or hula hoop racing events?

If you answered yes but did not get them or no, well you are in luck, here is a sneak preview of the top competitors in training! Just look at the determination in their faces. They will do their colonies proud!

District Beaver sleepover

The Beavers have arrived and the activities are underway. Out on the field the "track and field" events are underway. Some interesting techniques are being employed!
