Herons' busy day

After a full English breakfast the Cubs were briefed about the many activities planned for the day.

First, up to the woods for shelter building; a competition between each six.  Baloo then had to judge which one he would prefer to sleep in.

This then lead us to use the best of our collected logs to bring back to camp for a campfire later.

A bit of free time mixed with an energetic game of Crounders took us to lunch.

The afternoon saw us kayaking,

Altogether now - 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes...'

And archery.

Hot showers before a delicious meal of spaghetti bolognese followed by cake and custard - hungry Cubs eating large portions with virtually nothing left.

A wide game in the woods of Capture the Leader saw us up to a campfire with songs and skits.

Very tired Cubs ready for a good night's sleep.

Herons are all quiet now

Tents are up, Cubs have set out their beds and are ready for their weekend of fun.

A quick tour of the site and then onto a new wide game, disk-o thief.  By this time it is dark and time for a camp fire with the Cubs leading the songs.

All is quiet now and the Cubs have settled down ready for their lie-in tomorrow morning!  Sausage, bacon, eggs and cereal to look forward to.

Wet and Wild with Heron Cubs

Two Cubs of Heron Pack also took the opportunity to take part in the County Water Activities day at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage today.

After completing their water passport about safety on the water, they took part in three different activities, canoeing, kayaking and bellboating.

The weather was lovely, and the Cubs had a fantastic time.
Many thanks to the County organisers for putting on such a great activity.

Falcons say farewell to Oli

On Tuesday, Falcon Pack bade farewell to Oli as he embarks on a new adventure with the Royal Navy.
The Pack made paper boats then raced them outside in the garden.

At the end of the evening, several of the other Leaders in the Group came down to say farewell and thank Oli for everything he has done over the past 13 years with the Group. He was then presented with a Moving-on award from Cubs to the Royal Navy and some gifts from the Group.

The dolphins on the shirt are what you receive when you qualify as a submariner which is the branch that Oli is joining.

Our thanks to Bobcats Scout Troop for hosting our Annual General Meeting last night.

After the short formalities of reviewing our Annual Report and Accounts (great photos inside! - there are still copies available in our foyer), the Scouts described the many adventurous activities they have been involved with over the last year.
This was followed by a film show of just some of our highlights.
Congratulations then went to 3 worthy Scouts who were presented wih their Chief Scout's Gold Award.
The leaders were not forgotten with recognition of training completed.
And long service awards.
How many years Jim? ;)
