St.George's day

Thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders who attended St.George's day.

Thank you also to the parents, who brought their young people along and supported us during the community work or in the parade.

We were fortunate that the rain held off for most of the day. We got a little wet forming up in the playground and as the parade set off, but since this is "apparently" the first time it has rained on the parade in 25 years and we are officially in a drought, we can not complain!

Well done to 1st Stanstead Abbotts and St. Margaret's for winning the Peter Geer trophy. This is awarded each year to the Group who (percentage wise) attends the most district events. Last year we were very busy with our own centenary, (although we did support every district event and several county ones) and so hand this trophy over with good grace and hope that it will once again reside in the 3rd Ware HQ in the near future.

Well done to the Scouts and Leaders, who along with the Guides, Explorers, Senior Section and various adults carried out all manner of community work around Ware. You really set a great example of service and showed that young people today do care about others.

Returning after Easter

Our first night back after the Easter Holidays and we were building Ballistas.  The Patrols sub-divided into smaller groups and everyone started by tying their staves together using Clove Hitches, Timber Hitches, Square, Diagonal and Sheer Lashings all in an attempt to build the best object flinging devices

These are some flat-packed versions just getting their final touches

And here's one preparing for launch...

Ready...Aim...Fire...

Waiting for a re-load, ready to release the next shot...

Eagles Patrol, under Luke's leadership, eventually won the competition with the longest shot.  Not quite into the Guinness Book of World Records, but a clear sign that a career in aeronautical engineering maybe await some of these young people yet!

Welcome back

Welcome back to Heron Pack, we restart this Monday (16th). We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable Easter.

We have three new Cubs joining us this term – Harley, Samuel and Zak. We are sure everyone will do their best to make them feel welcome at 3rd Ware Herons Cub Scouts.

Please note that our programme, which you should have received by now (and can be found on the Group website) will be subject to change due to weather conditions and other circumstances. Cubs are reminded arrive on time wearing appropriate clothing each week to allow for outdoor activities. We look forward to a busy and enjoyable term and thank you all, in advance, for your participation and support.

Safely back from The Gambia

All 12 members of the 3rd Ware Gambia expedition are now safely back in Ware.

Members from each section have had a life changing experience, and are most definitely planning to return.

On our final day, we went out on a Landrover excursion, which allowed us to see more of the country.  This confirmed to us that the country is indeed very poor, but in spite of this the people are always very cheerful.

A common method of transport

A moving farewell

Falcons say Farewell

After 20 years (on and off) of helping first with the Beavers and then to Cubs, Raksha has moved on, although she may help out occasionally.
The Falcons also said good bye to 3 cubs who moved on - Max, Abigail and Alex

Pictures from Medina Sering Mass

Wow!

What an amazing experience.  We've been made thoroughly welcome in Medina Sering Mass for the last 5 days, and joined in with their annual Easter Scout camp!We were able to incorporate all our programme ideas into their programme, and have a two way cultural exchange.

Below are a selection of photos, which will give you a flavour of what we have seen and done, but please come along to one of the fund raising meetings that we'll be arranging in the near future for a full presentation, and details of how we think the relationship can move forwards.
