Scouts Parascending Weekend

The Campsite was pitched just before it got dark on Friday evening and the Scouts were in bed just after midnight
After breakfast, Ann, our Chief Flying Instructor gave everyone the safety briefing
And showed the Scouts the one-man round canopy that we might use
 ...how it's attached to you...
...and to the tow line
...how you gather it all up once you've landed
...and how to carry it
 Ready for take off
Setting up the winch at the far end of the airfield
Everyone into position!
Tandem flights lining up for take off
Ready
Steady
 Go!
 Up!
 Up!
 and away!
 Waiting to go

One by one, everyone gets suited up and ready for their flight

Putting on a brave face whilst waiting to go
Taking in the slack on the tow line
Going airbourne

On a fly-by
Winch takes in the slack
As the tow line gets pulled in, they start to walk forward and the canopy begins to fill with air
Starting to get lift, but still walking forward
Just leaving the ground
Gently rising
 ...higher still
Showing off the car seat style tandem packs.  The pilot has a reserve parachute in the back of his one!
Reaching for the skies

As the wind gets to strong in the afternoon, flying get cancelled so we go back to camp for a game of cricket
Richard and Gill go Geo-cashing
The Scouts find an old Land Rover 101 to play with

Barney rides around on the quad bike
The first very early morning flight on Sunday morning when most of the Scouts are still in bed
Another Land Rover to play with.  This lightweight version is used to pull the tow line for the one-man round canopies or generally mucking about in

The Scouts find a small fort on the airfield and go exploring

Trying out the outdoor gym
Cycling machines
Seated leg presses
Balance tables
Jogging machine
 and a rowing machine
Lining up for the rock climbing wall
Ascending the wall

Attempting the overhang

Finding a slightly easier route up the wall

More attempts on the overhang

Gearing up for the high ropes course

At the top of the high ropes course

Walking the line
