First Roving Scarf sighting

On Sunday 28th July the London-Edinburgh-London bike event came through Ware, and the scarf was on hand to cheer on some of the riders. Thanks to Richard an ASL for the photos.

Where else will it visit this Summer? Come back soon and find out.

GSL - Summer Challenge

This year, instead of a the usual Photo competition, our GSL is challenging you to take a photo of your Group Scarf in an interesting or unusual place and to email the photo to him at Roving scarf @ gmail dot com. (Please ask your parents/carer to do this to ensure they know you are sending in a photo.)

Include your name, section and little bit of information about the location. Rama will  then choose a selection to feature on this blog.

Where will you take your scarf? Please make sure you also bring it back again!

Cream Tea

Whilst the Scouts were busy messing around on (in) the river, other members of 3rd Ware were serving cream teas and cakes to members of the public. The afternoon was a great success with much money being raise for our twin Group in The Gambia.

Enjoying a peaceful moment after a noisy and exciting raft race

A fine spread - thank you for all the donations

Two Heron Cub Leaders drumming up business
for two different events!

We also took the opportunity to present HELPING with a cheque for £600, money that has been raised at other events through out the year. This will go to directly assist our twin group.

Chairman and treasurer of the Gambia Committee
present a cheque to Helping.
All in all it was a very successful event enjoyed by those running it and those attending it. The fine weather also helped!

Raft Race 2013

Yesterday saw Bobcats and Lynx taking part in the Ware town raft race. Once again the aim was to build a couple of rafts, have fun and aim to finish.  This they did with fine style and everyone who wanted a turn paddling on the raft got the chance as well as several who decided to swim behind! (Only after the race winners had already finished the course!)

First you need to build the raft

Then launch it

Paddle to the bridge and try to avoid Barney and his bucket

Paddle back again, trying to avoid the other 3rd Ware raft

Even upon finishing, you may find, Barney
and his bucket await
to ensure everyone is equally wet!

Well done to all who took part, as usual you showed great teamwork and entered into the spirit of the race  entertaining the crowds on the bank. See you next year!

And then to bed

Heron Cubs have settled down for the night leaving the leaders to reflect on what a great bunch of young people Heron Cubs are.

And then there was fire....

1, 2, 3...

GONE.  We think that was a winner.

Mmm Pudding

Name that Bug

The Cubs have been fascinated by their bug collecting this weekend, led by their in-house expert.  They have found cinnabar moth caterpillars, huge spiders, centipedes, millipedes.  Can you name this one though?

Fish n chips for tea

Just too hot to cook. Herons enjoy fish n chips in the shade. Followed by a nice cold slush puppy drink.

Lynx win the District Scout & Guide Swimming Gala

With the really good weather and the change to a Thursday evening brought Scouts from around the district to the annual Scout & Guide Swimming Gala held at Ware Lido.

Bobcats
 Lynx

The evening had all the usual races and heats taking place for juniors and seniors in both freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke including relays as well as the time-honoured tradition of the hoop race for juniors and the undressing race for seniors (though both of our competing swimmers were juniors!)

We also entered 2 of our Leaders into the Leaders race at the end, gaining a respectable 2nd and 4th place.

There was a free swim at the end just prior to the results being read out. Bobcats finished in 5th place overall, but beating Stanstead Abbotts by 3 points, Lynx were able to win the competition and get to take the silverware home.

A brilliant and well-deserved achievement, massive congratulations to the team! Well done :D

River Ash shelter building

We are building a shelter which looks (almost) good enough to sleep in.

Ware Carnival

Well done to everyone who took part in the carnival parade today. 3rd Ware looked great and won two trophies, best walking entry and most original entry. It seems camp food is still loved by many....
