Ash facepainting widegame

River Ash Beavers have been playing a widegame this evening.  We had to get as many different colours of Paint on our faces as possible.  Some of us managed all the colours!  We even stayed mainly dry.

Falcon Pack visit Hertford fire station

Tonight Falcon Cubs visited Hertford fire station. Dave and Andy from Green Watch showed us round the station, told us about keeping safe at home and some of the things that firefighters do before going outside for the best part of the evening!
Firstly, everyone got a ride in the fire engine with the blue lights and sirens going!

Then everyone got the chance to hold the hose and pretend to put out a fire in the tower.

Even the Leaders get to have a go!

Although Bagheera looks rather worried!

The large cutters-the jaws of death!

With many thanks to Dave and Andy for showing us around the station, the Cubs and Leaders all went home having had a great evening.

Falcon Pack at Thriftwood

Falcons have just returned from their summer camp at Thriftwood. We were blessed with good weather and even some sun over the weekend! The Cubs did lots of activities such as air-rifle shooting, the adventure playground, backwoods cooking, the kave maze, the site campfire and on Sunday the bouldering wall. Fantastic food from Dormouse and Mr Shere Khan as usual.

No adults needed!
Lots of happy memories from the weekend and lots of new challenges achieved.
Thank you to everyone who came along.

Sunday

Usually we go up the climbing wall, this time we decided to give bouldering a go and go across it. Camp is almost over and we will soon be heading home.

Campfire

The rest of us may be singing along (or not) to Eurovision, but the Falcons are  ready and waiting for the famous Thriftwood campfire. Many have experienced it as Beavers but, this will be a first for some of the Leaders.

Bag packing at Tesco

Today the customers in the Ware branch of Tesco were able to have their bags packed for them. All that was required was - specific instructions, if they had a preferred pattern to the contents of their bags, or else the willingness to take pot luck and trust the Scout to make a good judgement, patience and a small donation!

In partnership with the Spinal Research charity, three teams of Leaders and Scouts spent the day assisting locals and enjoying, once again, helping the community. Many people commented on the cheerful attitude of the Young people, reminisced about their times in Scouting or Guiding, asked whether getting involved as a leader meant you had to be there every week (High Wych - look out for an enquiry from a new leader) and one man commented that 3rd Ware always used to beat his old Scout Group in competitions. He went to 1st Wormley Scouts.

Many thanks to Tesco for allowing us to do this and to the checkout staff who chatted to the Scouts, encouraged them and even introduced them by name to the customers - also to all those who allowed us to pack their bags and gave generous donations. Thanks the Young people who gave up their Saturday to help their local community and must of enjoyed it because some even returned for a second shift!

Putting a damper on things...

...well on a stick at least, and very yummy they are too.

Saturday morning

A full English breakfast was followed by shooting and time in the adventure playground. Everyone is in good spirits and looking forward to lunch which includes homemade flapjack.

Cubs Go-karting

Saturday afternoon was the annual Cubs go-karting competition. This year all 15 Cub Packs were present which made for an exciting and close competition. Each cart had to be decorated in a Disney theme. Falcon Pack chose 'The Jungle Book'.

Shere Khan driving!

Many of the Banderlog!

Add some wolves!

After the fancy dress procession the racing began in earnest!

Daniel and Jack line up for the first race

After each of the age races, we lined up for the marathon. Rebecca was our brave driver and all 14 of the other Cubs managed to score a lap, which meant that we got a good total to add to our points score. Overall we came fourth with one point more than last year and one position higher! More importantly, all of the Cubs had a good time and all took part in a good spirit.

Lightweight

The Scouts have been out and about since early this morning. It is Lightweight time again. There will not be many photos because this is a go it alone event for the Scouts, but here are two for good measure.
One team

Nearing the end

Campfire

We always like to finish the day with a good sing-song around the campfire. The Beavers are all in fine voice as we end the day with some traditional scouting songs. We are all tired, but happy and ready for home after full day of activities.

Adventure playground

The adventure playground is a great place to practice our balancing skills

Climbing on the rolling rock

We've now all had a go on the rolling rock.  We had to climb really fast to keep up with the speed of it.
