Chinese New Year

Happy New Year!

Last Monday was the first day of the Year of the Dragon and the Heron Cubs decided to celebrate.

After learning a little bit about New Year in the Chinese culture and discussing which animal represents the year they ware born in, the cubs grouped off into their sixes and created themselves a wheel encompassing each of the twelve animals of the zodiac.

The evening was rounded off by sampling some delicious Chinese food.

Cub Swimming Gala

The annual Cub swimming gala was held at Fanshawe pool tonight and was the usual lively, fun and competitive mix. The races were entered into with great enthusiasm by the swimmers and the spectators cheered them on with heartfelt cheers.

Congratulations to Thunderidge for winning the overall event.  From 3rd Ware Falcons came 2nd and Herons 11th.

We are proud of all the Cubs who turned out to represent their packs. Every single swimmer in every race counts because timings can make all the difference to the points.

AMC

Two of our leadership team, a leader and a young leader have just come back from the AMC

This is the Advanced Mountaineering Course, held ever year by our county at Lochearnhead. You need to be over 16 and have suitable hill walking and mountain experience to take part.

Those who have proved this at the IMC may be invited, otherwise you can apply and show you fulfil the criteria.

Both had a great time and experienced some fantastic hill walking and camping activities. High camp was not as snowy this year as usual, but this did not stop the enjoyment and celebrating the new year on a mountain top is an unforgettable experience.

Welcome

Welcome to the new 3rd Ware Blog.

During our centenary year Gus kept a blog which proved to be a popular addition to our Group communication, especially when he blogged live from camps.

Gus only ever intended to keep his site for a year and so has now handed the reins over to the Group; from now on we will be updating this blog and not Gus' although he will still make a few guest appearances.

This blog is not intended to replace any of the methods of communication we already use. We still have the Group website which will continue to be updated, host photos and videos, will contain section programmes and information which contains dates, time, location etc (which is usually put in the member area).

You will still receive newsletters, emails and paper letters from your sections and of course will still be able to phone or email direct or speak to the Leaders after section meetings.

Please add your comments to this posts, encourage your Beaver, Cub or Scout to write for the blog and most of all enjoy our adventure.
