Cub District Go Karts

Well done to all our Cubs for their efforts in the Cub District Go-Karting competition this weekend.

The leaders' race was also entertaining - a valiant effort by Akela (Herons) and Baloo.  We look forward to seeing a new/repaired Kart ready for next year!

Walk to the White Horse

On the 1st December, Heron Cubs dug out their torches, and their warmest winter clothes and set off for a Night Hike to Wareside.

Cubs had to negotiate muddy puddles, and even a stream across the path.

When we arrived at our destination, the pub had laid on a feast of hot dogs and hot chocolate, sitting around a roaring logfire.

Heron Cubs would like to thank the staff at the White Horse, Wareside for their hospitality.

Roving Scarf 2014

The Roving Scarf is back for the Summer of 2014. Take your scarf on holiday or for a day trip, photograph it and ask your parent/guardian to email a copy to rovingscarf at gmail dot com (without the spaces and replace the words with the appropriate symbol!) and we will feature your pictures on this blog.

Last year the scarf travelled far and wide, where will it go this time?

Herons' busy day

After a full English breakfast the Cubs were briefed about the many activities planned for the day.

First, up to the woods for shelter building; a competition between each six.  Baloo then had to judge which one he would prefer to sleep in.

This then lead us to use the best of our collected logs to bring back to camp for a campfire later.

A bit of free time mixed with an energetic game of Crounders took us to lunch.

The afternoon saw us kayaking,

Altogether now - 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes...'

And archery.

Hot showers before a delicious meal of spaghetti bolognese followed by cake and custard - hungry Cubs eating large portions with virtually nothing left.

A wide game in the woods of Capture the Leader saw us up to a campfire with songs and skits.

Very tired Cubs ready for a good night's sleep.

Herons are all quiet now

Tents are up, Cubs have set out their beds and are ready for their weekend of fun.

A quick tour of the site and then onto a new wide game, disk-o thief.  By this time it is dark and time for a camp fire with the Cubs leading the songs.

All is quiet now and the Cubs have settled down ready for their lie-in tomorrow morning!  Sausage, bacon, eggs and cereal to look forward to.

Wet and Wild with Heron Cubs

Two Cubs of Heron Pack also took the opportunity to take part in the County Water Activities day at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage today.

After completing their water passport about safety on the water, they took part in three different activities, canoeing, kayaking and bellboating.

The weather was lovely, and the Cubs had a fantastic time.
Many thanks to the County organisers for putting on such a great activity.

Bobcats host our AGM

Our thanks to Bobcats Scout Troop for hosting our Annual General Meeting last night.

After the short formalities of reviewing our Annual Report and Accounts (great photos inside! - there are still copies available in our foyer), the Scouts described the many adventurous activities they have been involved with over the last year.
This was followed by a film show of just some of our highlights.
Congratulations then went to 3 worthy Scouts who were presented wih their Chief Scout's Gold Award.
The leaders were not forgotten with recognition of training completed.
And long service awards.
How many years Jim? ;)

Mini Pioneering

Heron Cubs spent a sunny evening constructing catapaults from garden canes and rubber bands.

Each six was given some materials in order to propel a projectile as far as possible.

Cub Go Karts

Well done to all the Cubs who took part in the District Go Kart Competition yesterday - a sterling effort by all.  There were 15 Cub Packs competing and our two Packs had a very respectable result with Falcons in 5th place and Herons in 11th.

Photos have been uploaded on our website.

St.George

Many thanks to all of you who turned out today to celebrate St. George's day.

The older members of the group spent several hours, before the parade, out and about helping the community. They painted, cleaned and litter picked at the Priory, playground and skate park. They helped dredge the waterway and make Ware a cleaner and smarter place.

The Cubs participated in a service at Christ Church, Church, whilst the Beavers were involved in their own event at Christ Church School. Both then joined with the Scouts and the rest of the District to parade down the high street and onto the Priory.

Here we renewed out promises and the results of the Peter Geer trophy were announced. This year we came 4th. This award is given for the percentage of young people attending District events. Peter Geer, an ex-3rd Ware Leader strongly believed, that all young people, not just a select few, should have the opportunity to join in and try out activities, a philosophy still held dear to 3rd Ware. Participation is key, winning is great and always welcome, but joining in is what matters!

The afternoon ended with our annual whole group photo in front of the Priory.
