Falcon Pack go ice skating

For the last meeting of term, the Cubs and Leaders of Falcon Pack went ice-skating at Van Hages. For some it was the first time that they had been skating, others were more seasoned professionals!
Everyone had a good time and it was a great way to end the term!

  1. Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for 2019!

Ghana evening

One of the Pack Leaders went to Ghana with her college. The Cubs and Leaders all supported her with donations of toys, toiletries and school supplies. Tonight we learnt about what they did and how we helped this small school and orphanage in western Africa.

First we looked at some of the photos that were taken

Then we looked at some of the souvenirs that came back

Then we did some crafts, we made our own kente patterns, coloured flags from Ghana and made some posters. We also tried some plantain crisps and fried plantain. They were lovely!
Thank you for a lovely evening.

Remembrance evening

To commemorate the end of the First World War, the Cubs had an evening about Remembrance. We learned some new facts about the war then each Cub made a poppy that we put on a wreath. At the end of the evening one of the Leaders put the wreaths onto the war memorial along with all those that were laid at the parade two days before.

Diwali

Falcon Pack have found out about Diwali and celebrated some of the most important parts of the festival. We were fortunate enough to have some parents attend the meeting and teach us about Diwali.

We made Rangoli patterns on the floor

We heard the story of Rama and Sita

We decorated Diva lamps, then at the end of the evening we went outside to light them.

Thank you for a lovely evening.

Disability Awareness badge

Falcon Cubs have been working towards the Disability Awareness badge over the past few weeks.
They have been thinking about different sorts of disability and what it would be like to live with blindness, deafness or a physical disability.

We had a visit from a puppy who is training to be a Hearing Dog for the Deaf and she showed us some of the skills she is learning such as responding to a cooker timer and alerting her owner.

making our names in Braille

Pairing socks blindfolded

Pouring water blindfolded

 Using a communication aid

 Drawing with our feet!

 Drawing with our mouth

Making a sandwich with only one hand

Trying our arm splints

We have learnt a lot over the past three weeks and hopefully understand a little of how people with a disability live their lives.

District Night Hike

Both Falcon and heron Cubs attended the recent night hike held in Puckeridge Community centre. The Cubs did a hike in the dark, then got the opportunity to have a sleepover as well!
They walked for about eight kilometres, then got back to the Community centre for burgers and a snack before settling down for the night. They watched a film in their sleeping bags before falling asleep.
Next morning they were up early for breakfast before going off home (and the Leaders for a good night's sleep!)

Bike ride

The older Cubs went on a bike ride from the HQ to Hartham Common. They set off from the HQ in the light but by the time they got there it was dark and they had to use their lights!

The Cubs had a great time, it has been a while since we have done a bike ride so many thanks to all the Leaders and Young Leaders that came along.

Making cupcakes

The younger Cubs made and decorated cupcakes while the older ones went out on a bike ride.

Making the cakes

Careful piping!
And decorating!

Happy Cubs!

Fruit kebabs

We made some fruit kebabs and cooked them on barbeques.

Our Young Leaders cooked them outside in the rain! It was an interesting experiment anyway and they did taste nice!

Oxley Shield competition

Heron and Falcon Cubs were among the 14 Packs of the District to take part in the Oxley Shield competition, this year held in Datchworth.
